We hear this quote a lot but has anyone ever given it any real thought?
Whether it be Queen regent or Queen consort most Queens tended to be cruel and unbearable whether you're reading about a real one's true history or a queen in a fairy tale. Think about it, they had thousands of followers and assassin's at their disposal so disagreeing with one about the pettiest of things could lead to "Treason" which usually meant death to you and your family. So it wasn't like the spoiled b***h in question was really loved by her subjects as much as she was feared. So where's the real fantasy in that for true good natured woman? Being queen was a constant struggle, some felt the pressure of having to bare their king sons to remain in power. From fornication to politics to war. Being Queen has rarely been a happy ending.
And as for most fairly tales, Queens always seemed to be at odds with a fairer more beautiful maiden most of the time. Thus depicting the queen in power as evil and unbecoming while putting said maiden through all types of torment before eventually getting it all back in the end.
So fella's as husbands do you really wish to relate the woman you love with the very same person who made "Off with his head!" famous? Sure it's ideal to be favorable to your mate when it's warranted. But it's these sentiments that tend to leave the average "nice guy" scratching his head when courting a woman he's attracted to. Believing that by constantly giving a woman flowers and candy and quoting poetry he would automatically sweep this woman off her feet. Yet with potentially being the King to her Queen wouldn't kissing as woman's ass be frowned upon?
On the flip side ladies, Kings are usually no better, Most marriages were arranged by both their parents. So there wasn't much courting or wooing to be done in order for their communion to proceed. The King would usually have all the power and did what ever the hell he wanted. Sure he'd do his royal duty by occasionally bedding his wife in order to secure his legacy with an heir. But odds are he was whoring around with one of his many other royal subjects anytime he had the chance. And rarely was he discreet about it. For what? Who was the queen to speak up against it..? He was king and the king gets what ever he commands. Thus leaving the queen as the royal child barer and nothing more in most of these instances. Name one king, Emperor or Ceasar who has never had extra marital affairs? Hell even Martin Luther "King" strayed on his wife.
And since things haven't changed that much from a 1000 years ago. By today's standards royalty would be like Paris Hilton being married to latest Senator being caught having sex with another man.
So for those watching the throne you might want to be careful what you wish for.
