is there a social hierarchy within the sex work transgender community?

I've often thought about this. Is there a social hierarchy within the sex work transgendered community?

I've admittedly only had one encounter with a transgender woman who works in the industry but our tryst was along the lines of a friendship. Saying that to say I know very little about the transgender social scene.

I very seldom see white/Asian ts interact with black/latina ts. Furthermore sites like craigslist and backpage are littered with ads that are predominately advertising the latter while sites like eros seem to draw more of the aforementioned.

I tend to see more asian/white ts in mainstream society living normal lives than I do non asian or white.

Well black woman going to school in a month...is that mainstream enough lol

You very seldom see the various races interact because of your limited exposure to trans women period. Ultimately it falls down to the same social criteria as with anyone period. Having interest in common to initiate a friendship in the first place. Trans women aren't rallying together day to day just because they are trans. However; there was a huge trans advocacy event spanning a few days recently in Philly that had a really awesome turn out of a wide variety of trans people from all walks of life. Additionally, most major metro areas have lgbt clinics that host monthly events specifically to bring together trans people and make them aware of any social issues/changes that may be going on for them to take advantage of.

As to the second half of this statement. It usually comes down to economics, backpage and craigslist is cheap in comparison to eros. Most escorts trans and genetic of all races primarily use the Eros service when traveling, as paying for a couple days makes more sense than paying high rates for 365 days if they don't travel. The cheaper CL and BP is good when stationary for extended periods of time, also more 'clients' know to look to CL and BP than they know about Eros amongst the plethora of escort services. Some girls that do use Eros locally wont keep the ad up indefinitely, they'll take it down during the slow periods.

How exactly is this even happening giving your previous statements of having limited exposure to trans women? Also, this contradicts your earlier statements in not believing trans women are capable of working jobs. That's me assuming that by "living normal lives" you meant working. If you literally meant just having a normal life, than all of them do, their way of making money is not their life. They still go shopping, dining, entertainment venues, and etc just like every other person.

With all due respect to Remy, and her experiences, I wouldn't call it a hierarchy but there is the same set of social separations in the entire gay community as there is in the straight community. How many asians and black do you know that co-mingle regardless of orientation. The same things that keep people apart in the straight world also exist in the non-straight world. I worked plenty of clubs where the majority of groups stayed to themselves. its just our social norms, being trans doesn't change that.

This pretty much sums things up...racial segregation happens among all walks of life. And you know what event is? Sunday mornings at churches, of all places.
