Yeah, but it's the execution that's important. For example, America can keep our country safe by dropping nuclear bombs on every other country that isn't strictly aligned with us. However; seeking diplomatic avenues allows each country to change and possibly become an ally as well.
Killing Otis was strictly revenge, they were less than 50 yards from the car. They could have kept humping it the way they were doing, and while the zombies would have been right behind them when they got to the car vehicles are made with safety glass that isn't just going to instantly break. They could have drove over the lot of em and kept it moving. No, Shane was feeling vindictive over Carl being shot by this man and saw a way to make his own getaway that much easier, by making Otis zombie bait, which ultimately was unnecessary.
If I recall correctly the 'rape' didn't actually happen, but it was damned close (she was screaming and beating at him to stop) and that's bad enough, because it shows that the potential was there for Shane to once again go over the edge even with a person he claims he 'loves'.
