Point blank, I like real talent.
I don't "hate"(too strong a word) hip-hop, but I despise what it's devolved in to. Working from the inside of the music industry ruined a lot of the allure for me, same goes for Pop. It's become less about delievring a message, and more about making you spend money. Go buy the single, go buy the album, go buy the ringtone, go by the personal greeting, go buy the t-shirt, go buy the cologne, go buy the vitamin water. Before, we were being served the "ghetto news story" by great verbal wordsmiths and beatmasters. Now, we are being served endless commercials trying to force us to spend money on materilistic bullshit in simple rhyme form with a hypnotic and/or "dope" beat. Their sole purpose is to get as much money out of us as possible. Great for them, they found out how to get rich, but that's not the kind of musical artist that pique's my interest.
Im not saying all hip-hop artist are like this, just the ones that are leaving the most mainstream impact on American society. We don't have more people caring about the issues of impoverished americans. Instead we have more people wearing jeans around their knees, rocking "white Tee's, talking in Ebonics, spending rent on "bling", swiping credit cards inbetween chicks butt cheeks, persuing a life a crime to get rich or die trying, and a whole other multitude of mindless drivel. So yeah, thanks hip hop for your continued contributions. For the few out there with something worthwhile to listen to, keep doing your thing. With technology and internet staying Independent is more viable than ever before, so you don't have to bend over to the corporate machine. Sorry, I've gotten off subject again, I have to figure out how to turn off this blasted Rant-O-Matic device :D
