I guess it would be "funny" (or strange, odd, even sad) if a guy's only chance to get sex was to "buy" it. But some guys view prostitution as a form of entertainment, analogous to buying an expensive gourmet dinner or taking a cruise in the Carribbean. Something temporary that is fun but not necessary to your life.

Now, there is a difference, namely that prostitutes (or the more euphemistic term "escorts") are human beings, so by renting their bodies there are risks of exploitation, hurt feelings, not to mention the spread of dangerous parasites (disease) to unwitting partners. All of which raises moral issues. However, apart from those issues, it's an extension of the sex entertainment industry, in some people's view.

Even if the sex you get is "free", there is usually something(s) a guy must bring to the table to entice his partner, which can be construed as a kind of payment. But that's another discussion.
