Escort vs. Prostitute

This has came up a lot in my travels lol. I figured that I would stir the pot and get some thought provoking idealogies.

What is the difference between an escort and a prostitute?

Do some of yall see it as the same? Do others not?

Some quick definitions:

A call girl or escort is a sex worker, who, (unlike a street walker), is not visible to the general public. Nor does she usually belong to an institution like a brothel, although she may be employed by an escort agency. The client must make an appointment, usually by calling a telephone number — hence the term "call girl".

A prostitute is a person who engages in sexual activity in exchange for money.

There is a lot of gray area both in the definitions and in real world interpretations.


**Try to keep it clean. Refrain from name dropping, insults, and personal attacks.**

I sometimes feel like the little kid trying to sit at the adult's table in conversations like these, but given that escorts ads I see generally try to make clear that they're selling "time" and not sex, I've pretty much taken that as the official definition, with no real sexual connotation in the purest sense of the term. I've always considered a call girl and a prostitute the same thing, and figured a lot of them just use the "escort" term to skirt around the legalities involved in selling sex.

A Prostitute Is The One Out There On The Streets And Probably Has A Pimp Where As A Escort/callgirl Is In The House Most Likely And You Have To Contact Her Phone Etc

I'd have to say I see them as one in the same, escort usually is just a classier for prostitution to thrive...The street scene is so much moe dangerous too...Escorting allows the girl more flexibility

All good points. At the end of the day, they are one and the same, just a play on words aka semantics. For the sake of comparing the 2...ahem...in my own words:

First thing to cross my mind when I hear call girl/escort is attractive well-kept "high-end" Internet ads nude model, etc. When I hear prostitute, hoes on the stroll pops in my head.....as I reach for my keys :p Makes business sense to refer to yourself as an escort, with the idea of making $$$ though. All about the hustle....
