You can mitigate the fake picture thing, do a little research. Search images with google image search or tineye image search. that usually turns up locals using pictures from other areas.
Google the number, if it doesn't have a consistent history, either you see it in your area with same pics over long period or you see that its a traveller going to different cities then don't call it.
Google the name see if there is a history. I don't put as much weight on this as girls change names.
And if you go when the door opens don't just run in the room take a breath stand there and look. Don't go in unless they appeal to you, whether they look the pic or not.
If you choose to walk away they're will likely be some reaction but hold firm especially if its a hotel, they got more to lose then you. corollary to this is if you don't like the building or the neighbourhood don't go in. trust instincts.

But screw all that. For your first just pick a local regular that’s likeable on the phone, in an area you're comfortable with to eliminate as many uncertainties so you can have fun.
